Back to shopWe have been considering a concert of film music for a while now, but the opportunity to be able to get the music for film scores that reflects the output one of York’s more famous and talented individuals was too good to miss. For our first concert in this our 44th season, we are delighted to present a flavour of John Barry’s music over the many years he was involved in the film industry - some will be very familiar and some perhaps not so, but nonetheless worthy of a hearing.
The orchestra is joined by local soprano Jo Pears and local chamber choir the Ebor Singers – and the evening will be hosted by BBC Radio York’s very own Elly Fiorentini.
To include extracts from:
Soprano: Jo Pears
Choir: Ebor Singers
Conductor: Simon Wright
Leader: Fiona Love
Please note that tickets are selling fast for this concert. We recommend getting your tickets online and not rely on being able to turn up on the night and buy from the box office.

We will always endeavour to perform the concert as shown; however, should circumstances require, the orchestra reserves the right to amend the concert date, timing, concert programme, soloist and ticket pricing without prior notice.

2025 is a year of celebration when it comes to remembering two very famous composers – Ravel and Shostakovich; we will be performing music by Shostakovich in both our February and May concerts, and introduce you to some of our favourite Ravel in May.
The final concert this season is a full programme of works both familiar and some perhaps less so. It is 150 years ago this year when Maurice Ravel was born; he became a serious influence on the French music scene. His output wasn’t huge when compared to others, but it is all superbly crafted with emphasis on melody. We present three of his more well-known works for you this evening.
