Trumpet: Jessica Burroughs
Conductor: Simon Wright
Leader: Fiona Love
Our concert opens with a classic overture - Smetana's Bartered Bride, with its scurrying runs through the orchestra and memorable tunes. It's an orchetsral favourite, but actually this will be it's first outing for the YGO.
We are delighted to welcome cellist Jessica Burroughs for her first visit to York, and she will perform the Dvořák concerto for cello and orchestra - a wonderful piece full of stirring tunes, and a firm favourite with the YGO.
This being Beethoven's bicentennial year, we had to include some of his wonderful music. For this concert of our intrepid brass section will perform the rarely played Equale - four short pieces in a solomn style. They were written shortly after Beethoven had completed his seventh symphony, which is what we perform to conclude our concert today.

The first concert in our 46th Season featuring works by Walton, de Falla and Arnold. We welcome the superlative trumpeter James Fountain for his York debut.
The orchestra goes on tour! We return to the lovely performing arts space in Helmsley Arts Centre with a programme of chamber works. This will feature a small selection of players from the main body of York Guildhall Orchestra members in works by Strauss, Mendelssohn, Beethoven & Mozart
