How to Join

The Orchestra welcomes interest from competent amateur or volunteer professional players who would like the prospect of working under an internationally known conductor.

Admission is by application to the e-mail address below together with a brief CV covering orchestral experience and level of competence. A minimum of Grade 8 would normally be expected together with some experience of playing in an orchestral environment of a high standard. Entry is usually by way of an audition.

At the moment we could do with a couple more double bass and viola.

The orchestra put on three (occasionally four) season concerts a year, but also get asked to perform at other events. The rehearsal schedule is usually over a three week period - Tuesday, Tuesday, Friday, Sunday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday afternoon and then the concert on the Saturday evening. Full attendance at all the rehearsals is expected.

We are a friendly bunch with an active committee; there is a newsletter and each rehearsal interval sees us gathered around Breda’s tea urn exchanging gossip!

Simon always finds interesting repertoire for us to try out and keep us on our toes whilst still keeping things interesting for the audience - a difficult balance!

So if any of this is of interest do please get in touch.
